Following Adobe's decision to no longer distribute and update Flash Player starting from 31 December 2020, companies have announced that on that same date they will discontinue Flash integration in their browsers (e.g. Google with Chrome, Microsoft with Internet Explorer and Edge, Mozilla with Firefox etc.).
THE IMPACT ON THE E-LEARNING FIELD
For the e-learning world this represents an issue impacting all custom courses that were developed in Flash and that do not follow HTML5 standards. Courses that rely exclusively on Flash Player to be launched will no longer be accessible starting from 1 January 2021 and will therefore be made obsolete.
GIVING CONTENT A SECOND LIFE
Old courses still contain data and knowledge that can be useful for learners and crucial for the company.
Converting a course therefore represents a much better solution than simply deleting it.
DOING IT THE RIGHT WAY
Which Courses will no longer be working from 1 January 2021?
The recommendation is building a structured list of all the contents that need reworking and of priorities throughout conversion – scheduling processes in accordance with the company budget.
